The Treachery of Words

In a world where everything seems to have the potential to offend, everyday language has become a battleground of boundaries and definitions. Yet humour, in conversation with knowledge and different epistemologies, can open up other ways of thinking, exposing the limits of language and reminding us that words alone cannot grant us access to truth.

Words can take us only so far. Reality, unfortunately, doesn't give a shit about our definitions.

Not long ago, I had the audacity to make a joke in a group chat. The consequences were terrible. Luckily, I managed to resolve the misunderstanding with the person involved and put an end to this human-rights-violating terrorist act of miscommunication. The conflict was resolved, but the mandatory sermon about good behaviour and community guidelines followed anyway, delivered by someone whose relationship with performative activism seemed more relevant than any actual adminis
